First Update from JWOC in Slovakia!

So far, most of the team has arrived in Kosice (pronounced ko-see-che). Kosice is the second largest city in Slovakia. We're still waiting on Molly, Emily, and Brent.  We all met in Budapest before taking a shuttle to our accommodation.  Some of the team had a chance to meet up for dinner in Budapest. We also met up with fellow HPP member Jennifer MacKeigan who is currently travelling around Europe.

We're staying in a university dorm and a few other teams have arrived as well. Yesterday, we did a sprint training on the campus and ran with the Chinese team. They seemed very speedy! It's been an adjustment to the heat. It's been over 30 C so far!

Today we went to a map only 5km out of town that was relevant for the relay.  The forest was very open (even the green was quite runnable which is unheard of for us Canadians). There were  pockets of lots of detail and many gullies and ditches.  It was also quite hilly! It's going to be important to make sure we stay on our compass bearings.

Last night we walked around the historic city centre. The sprint is going to be held there, so we got a chance to see how intricate some of the passageways are. The city centre is very pretty with lots of old churches. We're trying to learn some Slovak while we are here, which is proving to be challenging. Do videnia (good bye)!
